About This Salon
Tomoko Shima operates two salons in New York, one on West 14th Street and another on East 92nd Street. The head spa service follows a Japanese method focused on scalp revitalization through detoxification and tension relief. Guests particularly value the steam treatment, which opens pores for deep cleansing. Each session begins with a thorough scalp analysis to tailor the experience. The salon uses organic products like Argan oil and specialized shampoos. Soothing strokes during the treatment aim to penetrate deep into the hair, promoting longer-lasting effects. The atmosphere is designed to create comfort through warmth, enhancing the overall experience. Accessible seating is available for those who need it.

Booking Your Head Spa
Here are our tips to prepare for and fully enjoy your scalp treatment.
Book in Advance
Book 1 to 2 weeks in advance. Weekend slots sell out fast. And some scalp care specialists are in high demand, especially at reputable Japanese head spa salons.
Prepare for Your Visit
If you have concerns like itchy scalp, product buildup, or hair loss (alopecia), mention them when booking to customize your session.
Day of Your Session
Don't wash your hair the day of your appointment and arrive with brushed hair. Skip makeup as some treatments include a facial mask or kobido massage.
After Your Session
Enjoy a calm activity to extend the relaxing effects of your head massage. Note: blow-drying is usually not included. Allow extra time for long hair.
At-Home Care
Avoid washing your hair for 24-48 hours to let the treatment absorb. For a healthy scalp between sessions, ask your specialist which shampoo and hair care products to use at home.
Maintain Your Results
For lasting scalp health, consider regular treatments. Many clients book their next head spa before leaving to maintain their scalp care routine.
